DAY 1 Wednesday January 8, 2020 Cape Town, South Africa
We depart Australia and travel to Cape Town, South Africa. Known as the “Mother City”, Cape Town is the oldest city in South Africa. Perched between the ocean and Table Mountain, with a national park as its heart, there is nowhere like Cape Town.
DAY 2 Thursday January 9, 2020 Cape Town
On arrival we join our local guide, who will take us on a sightseeing tour to see many fabulous sights such as the imposing brick and stucco Houses of Parliament, the Victoria and Alfred dock area, and the Bo-Kaap area, where the Cape Malays live in brightly-coloured cube houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. We take the cable car up Table Mountain for wonderful views of Table Bay, the city and the sea (weather permitting). Later we check in to our hotel.
DAY 3 Friday January 10, 2020 Cape Town
Today we will enjoy a full day tour to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the most south-westerly tip of Africa. These promontories were key beacons for the early explorers and are the source of many myths and legend. At the Cape we will visit the famous lighthouse first erected in 1860. En route we will visit Simons Town, a pretty coastal town which is South Africa’s main naval base and consists of lovely Victorian buildings, quaint streets and walkways and a fascinating history.
DAY 4 Saturday January 11, 2020 Cape Town
A free day to explore Cape Town. Perhaps take a ferry to visit the famed Robben Island prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his 27 years imprisonment.
DAY 5 Sunday January 12, 2020 Embarkation
Today we are transferred to the port to board the MSC Orchestra for our cruise up the west coast to Namibia.
DAY 6 Monday January 13, 2020 At Sea
A free day to enjoy the facilities of the ship.
DAY 7 Tuesday January 14, 2020 Walvis Bay, Namibia
Walvis Bay is a small port on the Skeleton Coast of Namibia and the gateway to the Namib Desert. Sheltered by the Pelican Point sand spit, its tidal lagoon is home to abundant birdlife including flamingos, pelicans and Damara terns. The harbour is busy with fishing boats and ships. Dolphins, whales and Cape fur seals inhabit the Atlantic waters around the Pelican Point Lighthouse. Take a tour into the desert or explore the curio markets, craft shops, art galleries, museums and the beachfront.
DAY 8 Wednesday January 15, 2020 Luderitz, Namibia
This German village huddled on the coast of the vast Namib Desert is a surreal relic of German colonial rule. The village was founded by the Bremen merchant Adolf Lüderitz who, being a tobacco merchant, was interested in planting tobacco in Africa. Speculating on mineral deposits in the area and establishing colonial territory in Africa, persuaded Bismarck to place South West Africa under German control in 1884. Diamonds in the desert made it all happen, and it is as if a German village was suddenly plucked from Europe and set down on the African coast, caught between the icy South Atlantic and the burning desert. The Atlantic waters off Lüderitz are home to seals, penguins and other marine life.
DAY 10 Friday January 17, 2020 Disembarkation – Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
After disembarking the MSC Orchestra we are transferred to the airport for our flight to Victoria Falls and transfer to Hwange National Park and our Safari Lodge.
DAY 11 Saturday January 18, 2020 Hwange National Park
Named after a local Nhanzwa chief, Hwange National Park is the largest Park in Zimbabwe, occupying roughly 14,650 square kilometers. It is located in the northwest corner of the country about one hour south of the mighty Victoria Falls. It became the royal hunting grounds to the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi in the early 19th century and was set aside as a National Park in 1929. Hwange boasts a tremendous selection of wildlife with over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded. The elephants of Hwange are world famous and the Park’s elephant population is one of the largest in the world. We will hopefully see the ‘Big 5’ – Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. We’ll also see many varieties of colourful birds. Our experienced guide will help us spot hard-tosee animals, so we make the most of the safari.
DAY 12 Sunday January 19, 2020 Hwange National Park
Our second day on safari in the Hwange National Park is sure to be another day of great wildlife sightseeing and memorable experiences.
DAY 13 Monday January 20, 2020 Hwange National Park
Today we have a rare opportunity to experience life in an African village with a cultural tour of one of the local villages.
DAY 14 Tuesday January 21, 2020 Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
This morning we travel to Victoria Falls and enjoy a sightseeing tour. Victoria Falls are among the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The Zambezi River, which is more than 2 km wide at this point, plunges noisily down a series of basalt gorges and raises an iridescent mist that can be seen more than 20 km away. A great day to experience one of the major natural wonders of the world.
DAY 15 Wednesday January 22, 2020 Victoria Falls
Today is a free day to explore the Victoria Falls area.
DAY 16 Thursday January 23, 2020 Victoria Falls
