Day 1 Wednesday 9 September, 2020 Departure
Today we depart Australia on our flight for Rome Italy.
Day 2 Thursday 10 September, 2020 Rome, Italy
Early afternoon we arrive into Rome. After clearing customs, we will be met by our private coach and travel to central Rome. We will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the 'Eternal City' and see the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, where group members can throw a coin and make a wish to return to Rome one day. Late afternoon we will check in to our hotel.
Day 3 Friday 11 September, 2020 Rome
This morning we head off on foot to the Villa Borghese. A fantastic opportunity to get some exercise while soaking in the vibes of this wonderful city and the beautiful gardens of Borghese. Villa Borghese is the most popular park in Rome and is considered its green lung. The Villa Borghese Gardens are located on the Pincian Hill, close to Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo. After enjoying the gardens we will head off for a unique and wonderful cooking class experience. No one does food quite like the Italians, so it seems fitting that we should spend some time learning from the best, and of course savouring all of our hard work at the end is just as important as the creation. This is sure to be a highlight of the trip. Tonight the group will have a Welcome dinner at a delicious local restaurant.
Day 4 Saturday 12 September, 2020 Embarkation
This morning you will have some free time to further explore Rome before our private coach takes us to the port of Civitavecchia for us to board the Enchanted Princess on this fantastic Wellbeing at Sea cruise around the Mediterranean.
Day 5 Sunday 13 September, 2020 Naples, Italy
Today we arrive in Naples. Naples is the motherland of pizza. Pizza slathered with tomato sauce, cheese and basil existed here as early as the 18th century, but later named Pizza Margherita after the queen of Italy in 1889. Today we will learn to make the traditional Margherita pizza, starting with a trip to the market to choose the freshest ingredients before heading off to meet our Chef at a historical pizzeria to make and then enjoy your fresh delicious pizzas. Followed by some tastings of other local specialities.
Day 6 Monday 14 September, 2020 At sea
This morning we will have time in the gym with an on-board instructor to talk about the equipment and develop personal goals. Gerald will give a talk this afternoon on ageing gracefully. How can we reduce inflammation (or ageing) that is thought to be the underlying cause of chronic disease? What food & herb options do we have? We do have options, as every single aspect of our nutrition and food choices can reduce or add to the inflammatory process.
Day 7 Tuesday 15 September, 2020 Kotor, Montenegro
Today we sail up the picturesque Bay of Kotor, a submerged river canyon. A fantastic landscape is created by the overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovcen. The town was founded by the ancient Romans in 168 BC and conquered by the Venetians in the 15th century. The port of Kotor was built by the Republic of Venice and is surrounded by impressive city walls. There are many attractive Venetian buildings in the town. We will have a morning walking tour with a focus on local food and produce while exploring this interesting city. This afternoon will be at leisure for you to enjoy this magical town.
Day 8 Wednesday 16 September, 2020 Corfu, Greece
This morning we arrive in Corfu, the most northern island of the Ionian Group, lying at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea. Influenced by the Venetians, the British and the French, it is a melting pot of cuisines. Today our walking tour will take us on a trip through the exciting history of this town, unfolding its rich heritage while taking you off the ordinary and letting you stroll down the side streets to taste the city's most famous foodie delights at some of the best shops, cafés and restaurants! There will be a few tasting stops to give us a taste of Corfu's dazzling multi-influenced food. We will also have a Greek coffee tasting to experience one of Greece's favourite beverages.
Day 9 Thursday 17 September, 2020 Crete, Greece
This morning, join Gerald for a talk on Sleep. Why does it evade many of us? We will discuss sleep hygiene, foods to hep us get to sleep, and the habits we need to re-learn to maintain sleep quality. Today we arrive in Crete at midday. Crete has some of the oldest Olive trees in the world and is famous for its production of the liquid gold. Olive oil which is part of the Mediterranean diet is a traditional fat that has been a dietary staple for some of the world's healthiest populations. This morning we will take a coach into the hills of the Chania region to a farm at Terra Creta in Kolymvari just 27 km from Chania town. We will take a tour which will show the complete path of the olive from tree to table, at this picturesque but modern site with views to the sea and the White Mountains.
Day 10 Friday 18 September, 2020 Mykonos, Greece
Today we arrive in the scenic Greek island of Mykonos. Mykonos is one of the smallest islands of the Cyclades complex, but is definitely the most famous, thanks to its treasure of natural beauty, rich history, cosmopolitan character combined with plenty of local colour. This morning will be at leisure to explore this beautiful island. This afternoon we will have a wonderful experience as we travel to a working Mykonos farm. You will learn about the history of the island's farming, its livestock and its crops. Enjoy a farmer's snack consisting of bread, tomatoes, kopanisti, cucumbers and poor man's black olives, accompanied by the traditional raki. Cut and savour products from the vegetable garden, depending on the season. Help with farming tasks or just have free time to play with the animals or take pictures with them.
Day 11 Saturday 19 September, 2020 Athens, Greece
Today we call in to the ancient city of Athens, capital of Greece and home of the Acropolis, and the ultimate in ancient Greek architectural perfection – the Parthenon. Our sightseeing tour today delves into the glorious history of Athens. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the Acropolis and the Parthenon, built to honour the goddess Athena, still dominating the frantic bustle of modern Athens and one of the wonders of the ancient world.
Day 12 Sunday 20 September, 2020 Santorini, Greece
Yoga is well known for its multiple health benefits and if you've never participated in a yoga class before then this is the place to do it, in beautiful picturesque Santorini. After disembarkation by tender we will head to the cocktail bar PALIA KAMENI (not for it's great cocktails but for it's beautiful location) where our Yoga Companion will provide us with mats and gently guide us through vinyasa yoga which focuses on movement and breathing (optional). After the class, you will be at leisure to further explore this beautiful town.
Day 13 Monday 21 September, 2020 At sea
This morning we will have a tour of the Lotus Spa and the Enclave. In the afternoon Gerald will talk about Brain health. Can we regenerate the parts of our brain that lie dormant? What foods are best, and can herbs help? The remainder of the day is free to enjoy the facilities of the ship.
Day 14 Tuesday 22 September, 2020 Kotor, Montenegro
Today we return to Kotor. On our return journey we will head out of town by coach into the hills for a tour and tasting in one of Kotor's quaint yet hospitable wineries. Montenegro offers wonderful wine, particularly red, and grappa (a grape-based pomace brandy). We will then head back to the port for an early departure.
Day 15 Wednesday 23 September, 2020 Sicily, Italy
This morning we arrive in Sicily, a foodie's haven incorporating everything from seafood to goats cheese. We begin by visiting the popular Messina fish and seafood market. We then continue our unique journey of Sicilian food in the spectacular location of Taormina, high on the cliffs overlooking the Strait of Messina. We will travel to the markets, bakeries, cake shops and coffee shops tasting the local specialities.
Day 16 Thursday 24 September, 2020 Naples, Italy
We arrive into Naples this morning. We have a morning tour of the beautiful resort town of Sorrento with its spectacular views of the Bay of Naples. We then visit the ancient, perfectly preserved ruins of Pompeii, a wealthy settlement of the Roman Empire, destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. We will have a tour of the ruins with a local guide to see the Forum, the House of the Vetti, a well preserved aristocratic villa and much more.
Day 17 Friday 25 September, 2020 At sea
Today is a day at sea for you to enjoy the luxuries of the ship. Today we will enjoy a tour of the ships galley to gain a glimpse into the enormous operations of feeding a couple of thousand people every day (please note that this might need to be changed to a different day pending availability). This evening we will enjoy a Farewell drinks party to celebrate the wonderful memories of the Wellbeing at Sea Cruise.
Day 18 Saturday 26 September, 2020 Barcelona/Departure
This morning we disembark the Enchanted Princess in the vibrant and exciting capital of Spain, Barcelona. Barcelona is well known for combining socialising and food so it is fitting that we take a foodie tour to taste the specialities of the city where we will get to meet and chat with the small business owners. Included is a stop at Mercat de la Boqueria, Barcelona's most famous market. Early afternoon we will travel to the airport for our flights to Australia.
